What it watches
Five ways of looking at a site.
Each one says what changed, in plain words, with how it knows. Three cover every site. Two go further where the platform allows it.
01
The theme
Which theme is live and every file in it. When a file changes, a diff of what changed and the window it was noticed in. Before a new theme goes live, a report of what the old one had that the new one still needs, so a publish keeps the tracking, the product details and the pieces people forget.
On Shopify it reads the theme files through the one permission it asks for. On WordPress it reads them through the companion plugin, four read-only routes.
02
What Google sees
Search Console and Merchant Center, held against the site. Every address Google sends visitors to is fetched once and checked, so old addresses, copies and pages that answer 404 show up with the fix. Every product Google Shopping has turned down is listed with the reason, ready for the feed.
It reads the Google account you connect and the pages Google points to.
03
Email records
Each sending domain’s MX, SPF, DMARC and DKIM records, read once a day, so order confirmations and account emails keep landing in the inbox. When a record changes, you hear about it the same day.
It reads the records from public DNS. Nothing is sent to test them.
04
The site’s own record
What changed since the last scan: plugins updated, themes switched, accounts added, pages edited, settings changed. When WordPress recorded the change itself, you get the time and the person. When it was noticed between two looks, you get the window.
It reads the record WordPress keeps and compares two looks at the site.
05
The public pages
Everything a visitor gets, read from outside: the pages, the files they load, the tracking tags, the structured data, the sitemap, the links. A pixel that stops loading, a button an app has covered, a footer link leading nowhere, all read the way a visitor would meet them.
It opens the public pages the way a browser does and compares them with the last look.
One day of looking
A pulse, a walk and a sweep.
A pulse every 15 minutes. A walk every hour. A sweep every day. During a sale period the walk runs every fifteen minutes and the costly changes are emailed at once.
