FAQ

Questions, with plain answers.

What agencies ask before they write to us, and what site owners ask before they approve. For anything else, [email protected].

For agencies

01What does Mawnitor do?

It watches an agency’s client sites, Shopify and WordPress, for the changes that cost money and nobody sees. It reads sites and never writes to them.

Each change says what changed, between which two looks, and how it knows.

02Which sites does it work with?

Shopify and WordPress. On both it reads the theme, what Google sees, the email records and the public pages. On WordPress it also reads the site’s own record of changes.

Everything it watches, in full.

03How often does it look?

A pulse every 15 minutes. A walk every hour. A sweep every day. During a sale period the walk runs every fifteen minutes.

04What access does it need?

On Shopify, one permission: reading themes. A theme is the files a store is built from, so that single read-only permission is the whole of what Mawnitor needs.

On WordPress, an application password the administrator approves on their own site, which works on the API only. To read the theme files, the companion plugin adds four read-only routes.

05How does a client’s site get connected?

You send a link. The person who administers the store or the site opens it and approves on Shopify’s or WordPress’s own screen, where they already sign in. Reading begins from there.

How it connects, step by step.

06Where are the access tokens kept?

Each connection’s token is sealed with AES-256-GCM and kept apart from the site record.

07What is a sale period?

A sale period belongs to a client. The day before it starts, every site they own is read in full and one readiness email goes out. While it is on, the walk runs every fifteen minutes and the costly changes are emailed at once.

08Can I see it working first?

Yes. The example is the app itself, around invented sites, with ten stories applied at once. It opens without a sign-in.

Open the example.

09How do we get started?

Write to [email protected] with how many sites you look after and on which platforms. We create your workspace and send you the link.

For site owners

01My agency asked me to approve Mawnitor. What is it?

Your agency uses Mawnitor to watch the site they look after for you, so they hear about changes that matter. Approving lets it read.

What that means, in plain words.

02What can it see on my site?

On Shopify: the theme, which is the files your store is built from. Orders, customers, products and payouts stay with you.

On WordPress: the record WordPress keeps of changes, such as plugins updated, pages edited and accounts added. With the companion plugin, the theme files too.

On every site: the public pages any visitor gets, and the public email records for your domain.

03Will it change anything on my site?

It reads, and only reads. Your theme, your files and your settings stay exactly as they are.

04What does it keep?

The theme files and page captures it read, and the access token, sealed. The privacy policy has the detail.

05How do I remove it?

Shopify: uninstall the app from your Apps list in the Shopify admin.

WordPress: revoke the application password under your profile, and deactivate the companion plugin if it was added.

The site leaves Mawnitor when you do either.

06Our firewall turned Mawnitor away. What do we allow?

Allow this user agent and the next look goes through: WebsiteMonitor/1.0.

07Who do I write to?

Write to [email protected]. A person answers.
